This isn't the first time that Pat Robertson has pulled this crap.

Why does he have this unlimited license in the US?

You know, up here in Canada, a guy like Pat Robertson would not be continually welcomed into the mainstream of the national discourse, time and time and time again after pulling boners like that.

He would have done it once, been blasted by every sensible person as the vicious nincompoop that he is, and then relegated to obscurity, sitting in some corner, foaming away at the mouth, ignored and unremarked.

America, on the other hand, just seems to love this guy. I calculate on average, every four months he says something insane, ugly or offensive, and every two to five years he gets involved in something that is shocking and offensive... like getting in bed with Charles Taylor or Mobutu Sese Seko, or using money raised for Rwandan genocide relief to supply his african mining operations. But no matter what he does, he's only occasionally criticized, often defended, and invariably welcomed back with open arms. His charity was first on the government list after the Red Cross for donations for Katrina relief. If that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is.

So, I gotta ask, and there's no snark here, I'm just asking as a Canadian talking to Americans because I'm pretty curious...

Let me ask you? Is it anti-semitic to be opposed to the murder of Prisoners of war? Is it anti-semitic to be critical of the massacre of women and children in the town of Qibya, then in Jordanian territory? You misinterpret me, Den. I am 100% on the same page as you, and am one of the few posters here that is willing to lament the obvious influence AIPAC has on American foreign policy. My comments were, I guess, an unclear attempt at satire on my part. I have been, many times, the target of the "anti-semite" mantra, and am constanly amazed that any expressed dissatisfaction with our Nation's costly subservience to Israel immediately triggers such a predictable response.

Nixon could have been a great President, if not for the Watergate Burglars..., and secretly invading Cambodia and Laos, lying to the American people about his solution for the Vietnam war, committing treason by sabotaging Johnson's Paris Peace Accords (although to be fair, that happened while he was running for President and not while he was President), spying on American citizens, maintaining an enemies list, creating giant illegal slush funds, various forms of corruption, and poor choice in acronyms (C.R.E.E.P.). We've now learned that Henry Kissinger told the Pentagon to disregard any orders a drunken and insane Nixon might give to launch nuclear strikes, and we've also learned that Nixon was once upon a time canvassing whether or not the Generals would support him if he declared Martial Law to get out from under Watergate. The alcoholism and bitter paranoia is a problem...

But what the hell, take away all that and you know... He wasn't bad at all.

The economy was relatively sound, and in some ways, he was actually progressive on civil rights. By the standards of his time, he was a harsh right winger, but by modern standards, he was quite Liberal, even Left-wing.

On the drinking thing, I know its not illegal. But all the same, I really think that if you're going to appoint a man to carry around the nuclear football, you should be able to trust his sobriety.

Sharon is dying because he was on anti-coagulants after his first stroke (which was thrombotic, not a bleed). It just happened that because he's such a fat pig, he probably had a nice big cerebral anyeurism waiting to go off, and without his normal coagulation pathways working it didn't self limit.
