2nd birthday.jpg

We have been so distracted by serious problems around the world -- and in Washington -- that we completely forgot that The Washington Note was founded on August 3, 2004.

Although we are past the date, we are still in the same month, and I thought that it is good to punctuate these things with a thank you to all of you who read this blog, and who engage in "mostly civil" exchanges in the comments sections.

For those of you who donate through the Pay Pal site, even bigger thanks.

My day today (and birthday month) was made this morning when a very nice woman stopped me this morning at the Dupont Circle Farmers Market in Washington. She walked up and asked my dog's name, as I was walking a fairly hot and exhausted, but still pretty awesome looking weimaraner.

I replied "Oakley." She then said, "I knew it. You must be Steve Clemons."

Apparently she's been reading my blog that last two years in England -- and recently came over to Washington and was getting ready to buy some breakfast pastries. She asked about Oakley's future sister, Annie, and said some very nice things about TWN.

Well, thank you to the very nice lady from Britain -- and thanks to all of you.

We'll be back to the heavy stuff tomorrow morning.

-- Steve Clemons

Congrats on year 2! Hopefully a great year 3

Congrats to you, Steve. Very informative blog, and a big help to those of us trying to dig out facts. Keep up your great work.

Thats a cool deal, Steve. Congrats. We have our differences, and I know I piss you off occassionally,(and probably piss of your "friends" MORE than occassionally), but this is definitely one of the better blogs, in my opinion.

And gads, where'd you find that graphic??? It made my mouth water for icecream cake.

Happy Birthday Two You, Mr. Clemons!

I wandered in here by accident, and now I try to stop by every week. God bless you, the posters on this site, and, above all, our country -- in the vital days and weeks ahead.

Great blog, excepting the pro-French stupidity. Do not support the goals of the Museum States.

Posted by Marcia Aug 21, 2:19AM - Link

A very happy birthday to you and and a gigantic thank for bringing us thoughts, not beliefs.

Posted by KathyF Aug 21, 4:03AM - Link

That wasn't me, I swear! I'm still in Britain, enjoying your blog (but not your dog--where's some pics?).

Happy Blog Day.

here's to many many more years of TWN--i've learnt so much from you. thank you for everything.

ps, i still have huge doggy envy about Oakley and more, due to the incoming Annie. :-)

Posted by MP Aug 21, 8:57AM - Link

Well, you made it through the "terrible twos" pretty much unscathed. Good job. Keep at it! I know you will.

Huzzah for Steve, Oakley, and TWN!

Posted by alec Aug 21, 9:42AM - Link

happy anniversary!
kudos to you for taking the chance and the time to turn your vision into reality.

Happy (Belated) Birthday, and thanks for providing the site -- I enjoy reading the news and views here.

Posted by profmarcus Aug 21, 9:56AM - Link

you're doing a great service here, steve... as a fellow blogger who also does a lot of traveling, i know what it's like to work around time zones, hunt for wifi hot spots, pay inflated wifi access charges to greedy providers, try to accommodate my laptop on the drop-down aircraft tray table, and change my tcp/ip settings in order to be able to connect via myriad isp's... what's important, however, is to get truth and reality out there whether it's in big ways (you) or small ways (me)... somehow, some way, we need to get our country back on track... thanks for doing your part... and, btw, happy birthday...!

A double HUZZAH to you, Mr. Clemons! Your work here is a great contribution to liberal pragmatism.

Posted by Punchy Aug 21, 10:23AM - Link

Where's this civil debate you're referring to? J/K...Congrats, and keep up the fight.

Posted by gregariousred Aug 21, 10:34AM - Link

Wow, has two years gone by already? I remember your first post. Seems like yesterday. Darn.

Posted by karen Aug 21, 10:43AM - Link

This is a very informative blog that I just discovered a few months back. It's cool you go to "meetings" with these powerful people so we get a first hand account. Happy 2nd B'day--mine's today but I'm 29-of course!

Posted by Jon Stopa Aug 21, 11:49AM - Link

Thanks Steve--I value your blog very highly. I still find it amazing that a person with his oar in so many important places can let us peons have insight into people and events that I, at least, find deeply interesting. I spent a year in Korea on the dmz in 1958-59 and the year after in Japan, working for Stars & Stripes, and had a number of fly-on-the-wall experiences of the sort that I get reading you. Bolton and Korea really lit my fire. Having spent that year in Korea, with my life in hock definding them from "Joe Chink," I've followed events concerning Korea very closely.

Although my feelings tend to be expressed by POA, I find many interesting and informative comments here. In fact, they have tended to be more valuable as time has gone on.

You don't look a day over 28 1/2.

Happy birthday, Steve.

I value your wisdom in world affairs for honest debate in this chaotic state of affairs.

Happy Anniversary Steve.

I so appreciate the time and effort that you put into TWN. A visit here is always rewarding.

Happy Birthday WN...best place for food for thought on the net.

And congratulations to Steve, who manages to maintain his balance on the diplomatic highwire so well that he can share with us insider thoughts we might otherwise never notice or know about.

Posted by .... Aug 22, 1:13AM - Link

happy birthday and kudos to you steve for sharing your ideas and perspective with us here...and to the many fine posters who do likewise as well- thanks!

Posted by Nancy/Ca Aug 22, 3:48AM - Link

Very Best Wishes to you Steve and a huge thank you for all of the effort, info you put into one of the best blogs out there.

I will always smile thinking about the indigestion you have to have inflicted by now on the warmongering,anti-diplomat John Bolton!

It's only been two years since the launch of The Washington Note. That's over a decade in Bush years.

All kidding aside. Thanks for your work and sharing your insights.

Happy 2nd Birthday!

I actually only discovered this blog a few weeks ago, and after reading your posts regularly during this time now wish that I had made this discovery two years ago instead.

Keep up the good work!

Hey Vachon, thanks for the compliment(they are always welcome) but since you don't know what I look like it's a little dubious!!!

Well, as an occasionally civil poster on your lists, I can just say "Congratulations Mr. Clemons, I hope that you have many more years in you."

Posted by KOJ Aug 23, 2:10AM - Link

Congratulations Steve:

You are doing a great public service. Keep it up!

Peace!

Thank you for your intelligent and informative blog. I caught it early on and find your comments of great value to me in understanding our county's sad situation. My best to Oakley and Annie.
