Mark Warner May Say NO to Presidential Run
Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Thursday, Oct 12 2006, 10:08AM
This is a bit of a disappointment as Warner would have given any Senate-based challenger for the Democratic presidential nomination a real fight.
In Tokyo, some folks are already asking what this means for Hillary and John McCain.
More later.

No it's just a realistic assessment from Mark Warner.
The only person that can win hands down over any Republican including 'I will say anything to get elected' John McCain is Wes Clark
Not Hillary
Not Kerry
Not anyone else
John Edwards would be great but he will not be able to win hands down like Wes Clark.
Clark/Warner in 2008 is the power ticket !
No, it's not a disappointment. As a Virginia resident under Governors Warner and Allen, Warner was a great governor but he's not presidential material.
My preference was always that he challenge George Allen. Warner would have given Allen a much greater challenge as the more popular former governor and I think we'd be seeing a very different race, with the seat definitely going Blue.
Al Gore / Wesley Clark ( or - one of the anti-Rumsfeld Generals) ????
Any plans to do a coffee meetup while in Tokyo? We Japan-based readers feel out of the loop! :)
Sorry for the off topic link but this is worth looking at, especially in regard to considering any Republican who just voted in favor of the Tribunals bill as a potential Prez.
It contains excerpts from a brief filed for Jose Padilla last week, from the Arguments section detailing the torture used against him by the Bush Admin over the last 3 1/2 years. Guilty or not, this is serious stuff as he is an American citizen arrested on US soil.
I think this opens the door a little more for Al Gore getting back in it...
Radar Online is reporting that Warner may have opted out now due to a little problem he has had with philandering. Perhaps he didn't want to have his dirty laundry exposed during a national campaign. Dunno.
Gore/Clark is my current favorite ticket.
Way way way OT.....
Baker's Panel Rules Out Iraq Victory
By ELI LAKE - Staff Reporter of the Sun
October 12, 2006
WASHINGTON  A commission formed to assess the Iraq war and recommend a new course has ruled out the prospect of victory for America, according to draft policy options shared with The New York Sun by commission officials.
[Keywords: 9/11; Iraq; WMDs; Iran; Islamic fundamentalism; Bush; war on terror; $400 billion]
My prediction...
Bayh - President / Warner or Edwards - VP
Clark - Defense Sec.
Hillary will run rough-shot over the Senate
...that Scott Kleeb from Nebraska is a future rising star in the Democratic party...one to keep an eye on!
MSB
no, it's NOT a disappointment... i know folks saw warner as a reasonable centrist and maybe i'm over the top in my expectations, but i refuse to support anyone who hasn't stood up and declared him/herself as the constitution of the united states is being systematically shredded... warner, hillary, biden, edwards - all of 'em - can go to hell... sorry for the rant, but it's high time we woke up to what's really going on... there hasn't been a single "reasonable" thing that's happened in almost six years and i'm in no mood to continue trying to be friggin' REASONABLE...
Warner knows that he cannot get the nomination but that he is already on the VP short-list. Why spend 14 months of hell when you can reudce it to 3 months?
Power ticket is now Clinton/Clark.
Bayh is Congressman Forehead. Anyone who has ever met him in person knows that he is an empty suit and is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Any chance Spitzer will run, or will be interested in the VP slot?
I think he would be a big asset as VP.
Folks, every single Republican I know feared Mark Warner in a general election. He would have been an extremely tough candidate to beat. These same folks were (are) praying that Hillary gets nominated which I think is a pretty stupid thing to do.
Hillary has a 20% chance of winning a general election and that is 20% too much for me. If she is nominated - and I hope she is not - we are going to absolutely eviscerate her and her sociopathic fake husband in a general. I am for John Edwards for the Demo nomination, even though he does channel unborn babies in the courtroom.
Hillary's greatest weakness is with WOMEN contrary to the hype - once we educate swing women voters in OH, FLA, PA, MO how the Clintons have personally violated so many people, violated so many WOMEN, the Hillary campaign is going down in flames. A mysogynist "feminist" who makes a career covering for a rapist and serial sexual predator/people abuser is not a winning hand.
Decades of screaming at Bill in private while publicly trying to destroy by any means anyone telling the truth gives a real insight into Hillary's being unfit for public office.
It is the criminal use of a secret police, mistakenly referred to as private detectitives, like Anthony Pellicano (now in JAIL in LA!) that is why the Clintons are more qualified for jail than public office.
But please don't get mad at Republicans, we are just messengers giving the autopsy report of 30+ years of Clinton character suicide.
Did Hillary/Bill/Buddy Young organize the murder of Jerry Parks on 9-26-93? I don't know but they have to be major suspects in my mind. Look what they did to Gary Johnson, the neighbor of Gennifer Flowers. Johnson was beaten and left for dead because he had videotapes of Bill often entering Gennifer's condo.
On a thread about Warner - a poster writes one sentence about Warner and 4 plus paragraphs about the Clintons ...
Interesting ...
Yippee! Robert Morrow doing his in bed with John Mellon Scaife routine! Yippee !
Thanks for comin' back Bobby Mo. Write something on Class Warfare for us, ok.
Can all the $$$ in the world succeed in fully propagandizing the little guy into eternal slavery to the wealthy and their designs?
Booby Mo' Scaife hopes so, but the evil ship Capitalist Pig is gonna take a coupla torpedoes this November, and Booby Mo' is nervous bigtime as his venom spews.
Bwa ha ha, Robert Morrow!
I will not vote for
Hillary = panderer
Warner = not effective
Edwards = slick opportunist
McCain =closet psycho
Gore = maybe, if I can get over his bad judgement in picking Lieberman
Hagel = maybe
Clark = questions marks
Unknown moderate governor or other out of no where, if he will get a grip on foreign policy, turn around the manufacturing outsourcing drain on the country, establish and enforce a reasonable immigration policy, audit every government agency, and tackle campaign reform and corrupt corporate and foreign lobbist =Definitely!
These are the absolute basics. Now, where is he/she?
I'll bet $100 that Robert Morrow said exactly the same thing about Lieberman in 2004---that he was the only Dem that the Republicans feared.
Carroll writes: "Warner = not effective"
How so? Most people in VA think he was VERY effective and he was a Dem who could win and govern in a red state.

Lawyers vote to condemn Govt's treatment of Hicks
A national convention of Australian lawyers has condemned the Federal Government's treatment of Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks.
The annual convention of the Australian Lawyers Alliance, which has more than 2000 members, is under way on the Gold Coast.
Perth QC and human rights lawyer Tom Percy says the meeting has unanimously carried a motion calling on the Government to quickly get Hicks to trial or allow him to come back to Australia.
"I would be hoping that branches and law societies around Australia would be passing similar motions so that the Government can be left under no misapprehension the Australian legal fraternity is completely appalled at what the Government is doing about David Hicks," he said.
"We will be sending a notice of that motion to the Attorney-General, the Prime Minister and Minister for Justice."
Mr Percy says the unanimous motion sends a strong message to the Government.
"They might sit up and think that if there is a body that represents something like 2000 lawyers nationally from all states of Australia that unanimously want to condemn the Government over its handling of the matter, that is a matter of some concern," he said.

Wait a second. Do you actually mean to tell us that NO ONE in Japan has heard of Russ Feingold?
What kind of sources in American policy circles do these folks have?!?!?!
I mean, really. ;)
p.s.: I'll vote for any Democratic nominee for Pres BUT Hillary. (Or Kerry.)
Why, you ask? Because anybody that can't find a way to speak out for centrist, mainstream Americans that most persistently adhere to core American political principles and values simply isn't a qualified leader. By that, of course, I'm referring to the erroneously-named "Left."
Obama is running in 2008. You can take it to the bank.
STEVE CLEMONS '08!
How about Clark and Edwards: One strong on foreign policy; the other strong on domestic policy.
Shame on you Mr. Clemons. This upcoming election is about oversight and accountability, something that the Republican House and Senate have ignored. This election proves that all politics are not local. Chafee is a Republican and therefore must go if we if we are to have any oversight and accountability with the Bush Administration. Consider your blog deleted from my PC and laptop.
