Steve Clemons - Open Up Exchange and Travel With Cuba

On Day One, the next president needs to take stock of how eroded and degraded our foreign policy position is with much of the world. One of the lowest hanging fruit opportunities to improve our foreign policy portfolio is to use people-to-people exchange, cultural exchange, and relaxed travel allowances to open up our relationship with Cuba.

oakley and annie running.jpg

Greetings from the pups, Oakley and Annie.

Some of you wanted some more pics, so here is one of the two new best pals. Annie seems to be tilting towards Obama, and Oakley can't decide between McCain and Hillary.

I am working on broadening their options.

Can't decide between McCain and Hillary? I know he's just a dog, but that's weird. :)

Does he support more troops in Iraq, or is he on the fence? Is he willing to go fight?

Thanks for the pictures, Steve. I just can't
get enough of happy dog pictures and your dogs
have the look of dogs whose people love them.

But I think that you're doing Oakley a disservice.
Oakley knows bull droppings when he smells them
and would not support McCain. Oakley knows a weasel
when he smells one and sees one. Sure McCain
promised good dog briskets in the past, but Oakley
knows that the "straight talk" express is no more
than a slogan as McCain cozies up to the Christian
Right and supports torture. Oakley is a principled
hound and knows that McCain is not his kind of
people. Well, unless he produces a pizza with all
of the meat toppings. Then maybe. But only
until the pizza's gone! Oakley also knows that
New York is famous for good food, which is a point
in Hillary's favor. Sure Arizona has Jack Rabbits
to chase and maybe one of those rare Jackalops.
But in New York you can get good foot at 3 AM
(hint to Daddies - more midnight snacks).

Bring Hicks home now
THE Canberra Times yesterday (28/12) gave front-page coverage to a letter written by Joy and Roger Holdich asking that David Hicks be brought home. This is important as Roger Holdich was inspector-general of intelligence and security in Australia for more than five years. He would, he said, not normally make public comment — but the treatment of David Hicks was unjust and inhumane.

Five years after his incarceration Philip Ruddock has agreed that Hicks, an Australian citizen, be tried before a revamped military tribunal that still lacks the basic fundamentals of justice that caused it to be condemned by the British Attorney-General and the Law Council of Australia. It is a matter of national disgrace that our Prime Minister and our Attorney-General, both qualified lawyers, have allowed an Australian citizen to be held in solitary confinement for five years without charge and will permit him to be tried before such a discredited tribunal. The US itself, as well as Britain, refused to have their nationals dealt with by these tribunals

Hicks is in such a bad mental state that self harm is a distinct possibility and permanent mental damage a certainty. Howard and Ruddock must take a large degree of responsibility for the consequences of their failure to ensure he was treated with dignity and justice.

They have already inflicted great damage on the notion of habeas corpus and on the fundamental principle in a democratic society of a government's obligation to protect its own citizens. All Australians should be concerned as our fundamental rights have been diminished.

People who post pictures of dogs are somewhat sick.

Posted by Steve Clemons Dec 28, 9:05PM - Link

Dear Mat -- you are overruled. I like posting my dogs' pics now and then. Cheers me up -- and lots of others. But there are about 50 million blogs out there without dog pics. Enjoy!

best,

Steve Clemons

Whata you mean no dog pictures...are you daft! Dogs and horses are man's best friends, they are noble creatures, unlike us humans...and my cat from hell. People who don't have dogs and horses and cats or any pet partners are tweeny weeney sickos.

We people were put on earth to take care of the animals, not visa versa....Understand?

MORE dog pictures, more dog pictures.

Heck, he regularly posts pictures of asses, so hey, why not pictures of dogs???

Oakley is clearly a Wes Clark fan. Annie knows that Admiral Joe Sestak, D-PA-7 is a dog whisperer.

Your hounds are great, Steve.

Michael, the people of Australia missed a huge opportunity to voice its opinion about the terrible incarceration of Hicks when they re-elected Howard.

(Ditto the lame-os in this country in '04)

I have cats; just lost my 16-year old Teddi a couple of months ago. :-(

Steve, I think Oakley looks like an Independent. He seems to be saying he has not seen a good candidate yet.... look at his ears. Annie might have picked a candidate but she is not looking too sure about it either. hahahaha
But honestly, your dogs are gorgeous and thanks for sharing them with us.....
Let's all hope ( and pray ) for a better new year.....

Your pups are *gorgeous.* Post lots and lots of pictures of them!

Will Annie's eyes stay blue? What an eerily beautiful combo, her baby blues and Oakley's green-golds.
