You're blogging from a very special place. Several years ago we visited a relative who drove us all over that part of the world, from Glacier National Park to Yellowstone, and all point in between. We have fond memories of Whitefish, Kalispell and the Flathead area, including rafting the river below the dam. I'm jealous.

Hey Steve, if you can remember to ask an older barmaid, have her tell ya about my friend Joe, who put his vintage Beech bomber into a hillside above Flathead Lake with a highly popular northwestern band on board. Killed everyone, the damned fool. Rumor has it that the FAA determined his girlfriend, a non-pilot, was at the stick. If I know Joe, he was back with the band, stuffin' his nose. Last people to see the bird flying were some fishermen out on Flathead, and supposedly they had to duck when Joe went over them. Happened about twenty years ago, but I bet they still talk about it in places like the The Whitehorse in Kalispell.

I will ask around POA. That sounds terrible. I was thinking about how dangerous this area could be if one was flying manually in high haze. I landed yesterday in pretty cloudy conditions....and there are peaks around here that just pop up. best, steve
