U.N. NOMINEE BOLTON GETS SCRUTINY FROM SENATE DEMOCRATSSenate Democrats are digging through John R. Bolton's record to see whether there is enough controversy in his hard-line views on international security to derail his nomination as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Bolton, who has been a vocal critic of the United Nations for years, faces a daylong Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on April 7. Committee Democrats appear to be unified in their opposition to Bolton, while most Republicans have endorsed the nomination.
Norm Kurz, spokesman for Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, the ranking Foreign Relations Democrat, said members and staff are doing a thorough review of Bolton's entire career. Biden has not publicly said whether he would support the nomination, but he voted against Bolton when he was nominated to be undersecretary of State in 2001.
One Senate aide said the White House is putting on a "full-court press" to keep all 10 Committee Republicans behind Bolton.
A full-court press wouldn't be needed, President Bush, if this nomination made even a little bit of sense.

“Biden has not publicly said whether he would support the nomination, but he voted against Bolton when he was nominated to be undersecretary of State in 2001.”
The key point is that Joe Biden is not publicly opposing John Bolton’s nomination. He is keenly aware of the UN’s financial scandals and the polling data showing Americans to be upset with this nonsense. Is it really a good idea to oppose someone who wishes to assist in cleaning up the mess?
“A full-court press wouldn't be needed, President Bush, if this nomination made even a little bit of sense.”
Steve’s comments are utopian to say the least. One is often compelled to vigorously fight for what is right. John Bolton’s enemies are desperate. The election results last November were a crippling blow. They are on the ropes. The Republicans probably have a 270+ vote lock on the electoral college for the next twenty years. Senator Joe Biden is no fool and is well aware that his party is on the outside looking in. American left wingers are experiencing an existential meltdown.
Wow. You need to reassess the way you think. 20 years? That's laughable. And whether you like it or not, Democrats aren't just going to go away. They used to be the party of the people, but now there is no party of the people (although most people think that Republicans represent them when they really represent the wealthiest). Dems will fill the vacancy. I have no doubt. Also, try to think a little rationally. Mindless supporting of right-wingers and mindless hating of Democrats (or vice versa) ain't gonna get you any respect, bud.
"Mindless hating of Democrats?"
Where is the evidence to support this charge?
Dave,
Fella, you are the LAST one on this blog who should be demanding evidence! Are you an only child?
Although I agree with yahaddasayit, I apologize. Consider my sentence revised to say "staunch (if somewhat blind) supporting of Republicans when your arguments are successfully argued against and not defended."
