Steve Clemons - Open Up Exchange and Travel With Cuba

On Day One, the next president needs to take stock of how eroded and degraded our foreign policy position is with much of the world. One of the lowest hanging fruit opportunities to improve our foreign policy portfolio is to use people-to-people exchange, cultural exchange, and relaxed travel allowances to open up our relationship with Cuba.

Tom Clancy is confirmed to speak in the conference.

This is turning out to be a very fascinating assembly.

Steve, perhaps, while you're there, you could take grover out......side?

America would be most appreciative.

Or hook him up with some gay teenage prostitute and take pictures? Or, better yet, Ashcroft. That would work too.

You'd be doing us all a big favor.

Grover as in Norquist?

Posted by robertson Aug 26, 2:00PM - Link

Yes. Grover Norquist is going to be at Steve's conference, for all those with a keen interest in him.

After George W. Bush took office in 2001, Norquist told the crowd at a Republican fundraiser, "The Democrats are the Lefties, the takers, the coercive utopians…They are not stupid, they are evil. Evil!"

And what do WE do with Evil?

As Michael Ledeen wrote, " Creative Destruction is our middle name, both within our own society and abroad. We tear down the old order every day, from business to science, literature, art, architecture, and cinema to politics and the law. Our enemies have always hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity, which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) and shames them for their inability to keep pace. … They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission."

Yes. Grover Norquist is going to be at Steve's conference, for all those with a keen interest in him.

For people with doubts about the wisdom of including people like Grover Norquist and Bob Barr on the roster, I'd suggest reading this article from The American Prospect.

This has probably been asked already. Is the event going to be covered by C-SPAN? I would be very disappointed if not. It might serve to re-establish their reputation which was dulled by their August recess coverage of some pretty lame conferences. Is there anything more annoying than a snarky 16 yr-old hyperconservative?

Hey--C-SPAN covered The National Interest's event on August 16! Sure, I'm biased--but I think it was an interesting discussion on what's been happening while DC takes its August vacation, in Iraq, Iran, North Korea and what's going on in the "war on terror."

C-SPAN's not at fault for the fact that since Washington decides to largely shut down for August that the rest of the world doesn't oblige!

I'm glad all the Washington elites can go off to Martha's Vineyard and Maine and the Hamptons (to say nothing of Crawford) for an entire month while the rest of America makes due with 10-14 days vacation a year and is basically forced to work overtime.

No wonder everyone thinks that people in D.C. are completely out-of-touch with reality.

Tom Clancy and Garrison Keillor.
Separated at birth?

I enjoyed the first of Clancy's books. Then I saw an interview with him and realized what a crazed homophobe he is.

Bad choice giving this guy any sort of platform.
