Dems can complain about Lieberman for not listening to the party or for being to "conservative."

In CT there are more independent voters than any other party. So what does a Democratic primary really mean?

Let's look at the way people vote, "the masses are asses." After three months people can't even remember who they vote for, more don't even know who their representatives are.

The ad may have been a little lame. Lieberman needs to play up experience and mention how much money CT has got because of him. Voters care about "what have you done for me lately."

If all Lamont has are some sound-bytes and photo-ops of Lieberman and Bush, and that is enough to get elected, then the democratic process really has failed. George Washington was right, we don't need political parties.

Another point, Lieberman, as a Senator, represents the state of CT, not the Democratic party. The country needs to change this whole red-state blue-state label. Just because he no longer represents the Democrats, does not mean he no longer represents the great state of CT.

George Washington indeed WAS right, but not the way 5:18PM figured. Go study his farewell address to Congress and his explicit warnings about "permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular nations, and passionate attachments for others".

It's cute--and it's the perfect anti jar-your-sensibilities campaign ad.

I wouldn't mind if it ushers in an age of ambiant advertizing--probably would be a good thing. "This "time out from reality" approved by so and so."

Anyone check for subliminals? Or is the whole thing a subliminal? One could imagine 15 seconds of cavorting puppy, or gurgling baby. I don't know if it is that bad yet, a simple strategy of directly connecting feelings with a name totally without message or content may actually work, and be pretty scarey.

Joe attempts to strike fear into our hearts with 'Lamont = Pro Terror' rhetoric and then lull us into his corner with what is essentially a subliminal message. He is appealing to emotions and avoiding reality. His tactics are ridiculous and shameful.

Oh the Irony -- I don't quite get your sarcasm. Search my site. I think -- though I certainly may be mistaken -- that my own writing about Armitage/Powell and what occurred between them when Armitage internally confessed his sin of gossiping about Plame was posted here many, many months ago. In fact, last year, I ran a set of pieces thinking through who the original source had to be -- and discounted Hadley and John Bellinger in favor of Armitage.

At the risk of stating the extremely obvious - my specialty - we are watching a sunrise, not a sunset (Conneticut is on the East Coast). If the metaphor is supposed to be the dawn of the new Independent Lieberman, it's pretty weak. In fact neither a setting sun or a rising one is safe metaphorical ground for Lieberman... his sun is setting after 18 years of public service and Lamont's is rising, at least that's the obvious metaphorical spin that could be made. The ad is tipe for a parody, which I will expect to see by later in the day, but it is not outside the boundries of reason or even good campaigning for Lamont to capitalize on the ad himself... The Dawn of a New Day For Conneticut.

My sarcasm derives from the still unresolved questions of would this never have happened had Armitage been honest at first? is this really the vast Bush Administration conspiracy that the majority (even you at times) have claimed it was? Where does Wilkerson/Powell/Armitage's credibility on any of this lie now when they could have easily squashed this three years ago, prior to grand jury investigations, prior to the libby indictment (for extranneous reasons I might add) and prior to drag it has - unfairly - had on the white house. Simply put, this was never the conspiracy that this site portrayed it to be. And if it was, it originated and lived at state, not the white house or the VPO.

i don't think everyone has been disparaging of the lieberman ad. i also don't think any of us (myself included) has seen, let alone discussed ANY of lamont's spots. also, the largely anti-lieberman crowd on this blog is not the intended audience of the commercial.

it is my hunch that this spot, as banal as it may be, is working for lieberman beyond his consultant's wildest expectations.

again, my hunch is that most of the traffic on youtube.com is being driven by links on this blog and other liberal netroot websites whose readers despise lieberman. the effect of this commercial should not be judged by comments here or on youtube.com

This ad is a hoot and a half.

Initially it sent a creepy chill up my spine. It was then that I thought it must be funded by "Mind Control Professionals for Liebermann."

But by the end of the schmalz I was laughing out loud. That's when I knew it was really funded by "Incompetent Hypnotists for Liebermann."
