Coles District Democratic Committee "Cookbook for Democracy" Project: "Preparing for the Daily John Bolton Battle Smoothie"

I had no idea that one of the proliferating political fundraiser ideas out there was getting a bunch of progressive, liberal, democratic, and occasionally dissident Republican voices to offer recipes for cookbooks.
Occasionally, the Senator or Congressman or TV anchor offers something philosophical rather than edible, but I just offered my very first cookbook contribution for the Coles District Democratic Committee's "Cookbook for Democracy" Project.
The Coles District is in Prince William County, Virginia.
Here is my entry:
Steve Clemons' "Preparing for the Daily John Bolton Battle Smoothie"1. First, each morning, watch this video of the still unconfirmed US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton
2 Then do 40 push-ups, run 3 miles -- plan your daily Bolton strategy
3. Read a section from your "John Bolton Journal" -- everyone should have one. My Bolton Journal has several years of notes compiled after I decided long ago that Bolton's brand of foreign policy was dangerous for the nation. My favorite line from one of his staffers, "If my boss had had his way, we'd be dropping bombs on North Korea now," offered casually on a Dupont Circle street corner.
4. Gather the following:
one bananaone 6-8 oz container of peach or vanilla yoghurt
one nectarine -- quartered with pit removed
ten ice cubes
one half cup of juice -- best is mango orange but you can use cranberry or orange juice -- but not lemon
5. Grind all these on high -- in blender
6. It's a happy drink. Now go do something positive. Make a call, write a blog post or letter, interview a close Bolton aide for a kiss and tell story -- do anything that is designed to help Ambassador Bolton move on to his next job and free his current position for someone who will "deliver" on America's diplomatic needs in the UN.
-- Steve Clemons, publisher of The Washington Note
John Aravosis will be in this cookbook -- as well as Howard Dean, Bill Richardson, Jay Rockefeller, Hillary Clinton, Ned Lamont, blogger Steve Gilliard, Kevin Drum, Martin O'Malley, James Webb, and a lot of other people. Sounds interesting.
I've been thinking of learning more about cooking.
-- Steve Clemons

Bush has also offered his most beloved recipie to American democracy called the Texass Shit Sandwich.
1. Get some shit.
2. Smear it on some white bread.
3. Bite it. Chew well. Swallow. Cause it'll be shoved down yer throats otherwise.
4. Wipe the shit off your lips.
5. Smile, and God Bless America ("looka that shit eatin' grin!")
Kudos for whatever role Steve and the NAF played in steering America away from hubris, fantasy, machoism with the killing of the Bolton nomination. Perhaps we are indeed on the slow road back to becoming a principled nation, away from the self-destructive past of genocide and sole decider for the world in terms of how people are to be governed and how their resources are to be used. While I would not advocate letting down our guard until we all agree as a nation that using force against Iran is such a bad mistake that Iraq would look like a success story in comparison. And we need to make clear we understand that the rest of the world sees nuclear weapons for what they are- the modern equivalent of Hitler's concentration camps for "final solutions" ie extermination and cremation camps that happen so fast no fences, guards, or buildings are required. To continue to demonize Iran, and "know" Iran would use nuclear weapons (they don't have to actually cross the energy to weapons divide to achieve their aim) is sheer madness. Even Hitler understood the blowback from any use of the sarin gas he invented and never considered using it - UBL's tactics, whatever we may think, are generally thought out and based on sound strategic principles.
In that sense, I continue to be amazed by the clarity exhibited by the New America Foundation, especially Steve and Flynt Leverett. For those who did not see the killer panel put on yesterday by the Cato Inst.(hosted by Chris Preble and shown on C-span) that included Flynt, Bob Pape, Dana Priest, Rand Beer, and Andrew Kohut from PEW, it is available as an MP-3 podcast

Sounds like a healthy drink Steve. But if you really want to make it happy, you could slip in a little vodka!
Steve,
Sounds good but I think the recipe would be enchanced by adding a few nuts--almonds perhaps to provide more protein and some good fatty oils.

Cheneyburgers Por Su Perro
Ingredients: 4 pounds of fresh ground sirloin, healthy seasonings
Combine raw sirloin and seasonings taste
Using a vigorous slapping technique, form Cheneyburgers into appropriate portion-sizes
Grill to perfection, turning each burger with a flourish
Serve each Cheneyburger in an uptown doggie bowl with the inscription "Poochie Power"
Following the meal, lavish your dog with praise, love, more love -- and a whole lot more love.
Damn. There ain't no Jamba Juices in this backwater burg of central Cal, so I guess I gotta settle for a Cherry Cream Slush from Sonic Burger. But thanks for the reminder Steve, its time to restock the fridge.
I'm thinking I need to get a copy of this cookbook, primarily to see Howard's entry. I had no idea the guy could cook. Unless it's a recipe for ice cubes or something :-)
"I had no idea the guy could cook..."
I don't think he does much cooking. I saw some photos of his kitchen in Time or Newsweek when he was the frontrunner. The kitchen was a BIG mess.
Made me love Howard even more!

Hey, if all it takes for you to love a guy is a messy kitchen, than by God you're gonna WORSHIP me!
Hey POA,
I **already** worship you for your passion, but worry a bit about your blood pressure!
Well, I won't give it away, but it's simple and written in a style you'd expect from Howard Dean. -- The editor
Sounds like a fine recipe. I like the idea of adding some nuts- maybe almond butter- to it. I also wonder if there is any connection to the Food For Thought place that used to be in Dupont Circle on Conn Ave.
