A few weeks ago Scott Paul posted information about the anti-free speech crackdown in Russia, which is rapidly sliding back into a police state, like China already is. So why should American citizens, from the world's greatest democratically elected country, vote to ratify LOST when it just gives more power to the democracy and republican-haters at the United Nations' madhouse? That is exactly what LOST does; it weakens the power of the the democratic USA and strengthens the hands of police states like Russia, China and a whole host of other America and freedom haters.

Can I ask: why is it so important that Bush make this statement? The Dems run the Senate now; why on earth would Biden be waiting for Bush to give him the go-ahead?

i've heard Biden wants ZERO resistance. He's been totally unwilling to lead on this so far - waiting for GWB to go out front. now, Bush's statement will make this a shoo-in.

But even that doesn't mean that bad boy Biden will do anything!

Also, be careful. Remember Cheney's recent aircraft carrier speech. He mentioned Freedom of the Seas....Could this be a "blank check redux" to help tie Democrats into an Iran strike, should things in the Persian Gulf get ugly?

If it is beneficial to American interests, then Biden would do well to call for hearings to examine and articulate why, and who exactly benefits from this law, - and then and only then - if truly bipartisan support is warranted - then so be it.

Until that day, and without a more thorough examination of the details of the law - NOTHING the Bush government proposes should EVER be supported! This is what democracy looks like.

Paul, I'm wondering what the actual benefit is. If we're already complying, and no one can hold us to a treaty we've not committed to, why should we give up sovereignty?
