(John Edwards' Senior Economic Adviser Leo Hindery and CNN Washington Bureau Chief David Bohrman at New America Foundation Dinner)
This is interesting news. John Edwards has appointed cables sports industry giant Leo Hindery
to serve as Senior Economic Advisor on his campaign.
There are not many Democratic CEOs in the cable television and sports business, but Leo Hindery is one. He has had a spectacularly successful career in the media and broadcast arena but his passion is restoring the health of the American economy and achieveing more equitable sharing of the growth and gains in that economy among its key stakeholders -- in other words with "workers."
Hindery has been one of the few CEOs who has argued that overall the current crop of American business leaders are shipping out jobs and manufacturing capacity overseas to benefit their own personal financial interests -- but are crippling their firms, their workers, and the long term health of American society.
While John Edwards may get a bump with his base for bringing on a guy who won the Le Mans Grand Prix, I think it's what Leo Hindery has been writing and arguing about economic public policy that makes him interesting.
Hindery's book It Takes a CEO: It's Time to Lead with Integrity and his interesting recent report on the American economy under the auspices of the Horizon Project give good insight into the kind of stakeholder-oriented economic counsel Hindery will most likely provide presidential candidate John Edwards.

"Argued", eh? Is there any doubt?
Maybe the better word would have been "admitted".
A 1900-mile race like Le Mans kinda puts the Indy 500 in its place. A shrewd pick by Edwards.
"Stakeholder-oriented economic cousel"? I think that term may be a bit off. It's not that others don't provide that, but that in their view, the average worker/ American is not a stakeholder... only the equitied class, investment firms, etc. are.
(On a side note, I loved the Financial Times' editorial on Iraq today. Contained the following well said assessment. - "A promiscuous search for allies will do nothing to mend the desperate catalogue of errors already committed by the Bush administration.")
I think the fact that a man like Hindery has decided to work for Edwards says quite a bit about Edwards himself. I have often thought to myself that maybe alot of what Edwards talks about is just a means to an end. Now feel a little foolish. Perhaps Edwards is the real deal.
I am going to vote for Edwards in the primary. I just hope that Edwards and his crew can get the rest of the undecided Dems onboard with what resources they have. The task it would seem is monumental.
I knew Leo in undergraduate. His endorsement of Edwards confirms what I long suspected: Edwards is an ethical guy and not just another ambitious politician who forms his opinions after he reads the most recent polls. Edwards choice of Leo is very reassuring.
Do you think giving a testimonial to someone he hasn't done business with is ethical? I gave money to his 2004 campaign. Now I wouldn't touch the guy based on his lack of response to simple question. Check out our John Edwards section and discover this issue. Judge for yourself.
