Steve Clemons & John Wayne.jpg

About to board the direct flight from Dulles to Beijing. Look forward to catching up with TWN readers there.

But a great friend of mine who works for the State Department in Vienna sent me this clip that will make any travelers, or wannabe globe-trotters, smile.

More soon.

One country--cast of billions. Dance and enjoy!

Good to see that guy is still going at it. Don't forget to check your sidearm at the border.

It looks like Matt once again proved that old adage--you can run but you can't hide!

Anyway that fellow standing next to Steve may have helped win the West, but I doubt he'll be of much help in the East (partly cause he's dead!) Of course, once Hollywood gets a hold of it, anything is possible.

Apropos of nothing, Donald Hall is right now reading one of his poems on A Prairie Home Companion. Words are wondrous things in able hands.

Remember The Duke's mantra, Steve: Don't act, react. No, I don't know of what good that might be in China, but he said that was the key to his acting.

Don't act, react, was the key to his "acting" because Duke (he preferred to be named after his dog than by his real name Marion) was not really an actor.

Unfortunately, the Orange County (CA) airport is named after this character. But, hey, it's California.

Oh also, if you talk with any government bigwigs/ decision makers over there, it would be interesting to hear how much ideological anxiety they are feeling about an Obama presidency. They've had it easy for the last 8 years with Bush and all his international bluntness...sort of makes their own arguments for them with a negative example. Obama on the other hand...might force them to start tending their own garden a little better.

Brokeback Cowboy Diplomacy is over.

John Bolton must have shaved before getting his pic next to you there, Steve.

Intriguing photo-- Are there two photographers, or are you just looking in the same direction as Mr. Wayne, and not the photographer, on purpose?

Matthew Harding's video. Try not to cry. But when you do, and you
will, know why: this video is beyond politics, out where humanity
simply dances. Thanks Matthew. Thanks Steve.

This from a 58-year old dad.
