I was apparently dead wrong about virtually everything in post on other site. Still suspicious, though, about this. Still think something will go down tomorrow.

Well, whoever the choice might be, I think we can safely predict that the announcement will be terribly anticlimactic, and that the day after it occurs everyone will go back to remembering that the vice presidency isn't worth a warm bucket of spit.

Sure, it would be nice to have a vice president with some Washington experience, a fat Rolodex and a head stuffed with insider dope: the guy who knows which congressmen paid for their secretaries' abortions; the one who knows who's on the corporate dole; the fellow who once bedded Vladimir Putin's sister or Hugo Chavez's brother; the one who knows who killed Chandra Levy. It would be even nicer to have a chief of staff, a domestic policy adviser, a press secretary of a White House chef who knows these things.

Of course they're not ready to announce VP candidates yet--they have yet to milk the "drama" for all it's worth. The only value in the VP selection process is to garner free publicity for the Presidential candidate and to give the talking heads something positive to speculate about, which is not their favorite activity. Negative speculation is better, followed by "news," which is their least favorite dead space filler because it takes time, effort and money.

Bayh & Kaine both have issues. AUMF for Bayh, and Kaine isn't exactly fully pro-choice or fully pro-labor either.

John Warner, until he picked a major blogger for a spokesman who had a history of insider trading, and that blogger is now one of Obama's biggest fans.

Besides that, a POTUS can be impeached or face court for items they did before taking office.
Tony Rezko is a nukular Whitewater on its best day. Only it stands out that Obama profited off the deals, the Clintons never made money off their real estate transaction.

I don't want you to tell me what other wankers said about Clark's words. I want YOU to tell me what was wrong with them.

Also, I thought getting digs in was the modern Veepster's role in all of this. Maybe another passive lapdog will do the trick. This time for sure.

What's wrong is Clark's overinflated view of himself. He fancies himself to be something much bigger than his military career, but he's not -- and McCain is. "My military career is better than his" does nothing for him, and denigrating, or at the very least discounting, McCain's military service has a very simple boomerang effect. Clark wants to be considered qualified for the Oval Office on the same -- or similar -- merits that he says don't count for squat in McCain's case.

Clark may have been brilliant a Supreme Allied Commander, but he's a dimwit lightweight on the political scene. He's out. The cartoon says it all.

I was once enamored with Clark's CNN performances and his pearly whites, but then I went to see him on a panel at the Center for Global Development, and my opinion sank withing minutes of seeing the "real deal." If it doesn't involve the armed forces, he's clueless. It won't happen.

I don't put a lot of stock in cartoons (some exceptions: Get Your War On, Bloom County, Zippy the Pinhead, Mark Trail).

Clark has been solid, including his speaking truth to Bob Schieffer. Republicans picked Dick "Dick" Cheney, who was legitimately horrible (pro apartheid, "other priorities" etc.). I realize the press has different standards for Reps and Dems (see Alterman, Somerby, et al), but turning tail and running every time some talking head idiot cries "boo" hasn't worked well in the past. I also realize that this is the house of conventional wisdom, but that hasn't worked out too well either. Tom Daschele, Joe Biden? Willing Iraq Invasion enablers and first class schmucks. Wes Clark? Legitamate war hero, got Iraq right, can hold his ground and be tough. One model has lost a bunch of winnable elections, the other has yet to be tested.

Clark "can hold his ground and be tough" -- when saying getting shot out of a plane doesn't qualify for the presidency.

But all Clark is is military experience. He can't speak coherently on anything else. There's no overlap between Clark and Obama, so offering a 2nd-in-line whose sole credential is his military service that he himself says is insufficient only points out the great gaps in BOTH candidates.

Clark. Will. Not. Happen.

Clark will not happen, but only because chicken[excrement]s let themselves be bullied by the likes of Bob Schieffer, Rove, any right winger who says "boo" et al. Clark doesn't need to bring much else than military--the other stuff is what Obama's for, dig? (And anyway, he's fine elsewhere, he taught economics at West Point for [goodness] sake).

I'll take tough, smart, correct on Iraq (huge), legit military cred, pro-Choice, and the other stuff I said before to Senator Hair Piece or Senator Hair Plug.

My reading of the body language for some time now says Obama has already picked Hillary., but it makes good news to be "searching" for a while yet....I still say white guys, especially old ones, are yesterdays' fashion. Although I'm left of left, I agree with Pat Buchanan on this one... he says a white guy is bland and a punt.. Hillary would be hitting it out of the ballpark....I'm counting on Obama wanting to win bad enough to get smart here.

There are white guys and there are white guys; they can't ALL be "yesterday's fashion".

I mean the concept of white guys only... it really is time for a woman...I think they work well together... today I read that Caroline Kennedy favors Russ Feingold... I love Russ... he was my choice for Prez.... I just think that given that Hillary garnered more votes than Obama, it would be suicidal to not choose her... this is not to say that eithor of them was my choice on the issues...
