McCain Puts Out Call for Interns

mccain jindal twn.jpg

Senator McCain's presidential campaign team has put out a call for DC interns:

John McCain needs YOU!

The John McCain 2008 Presidential Campaign is looking for interns and volunteers for full-time positions available immediately in our Arlington (Crystal City), headquarters.

Interns/volunteers will work with staff on various projects essential to the campaign and play a significant role in building Senator McCain's grassroots efforts. Interested candidates should send a resume and cover letter to: Volunteer4@JohnMcCain.com

Thank you!

Jacob Champion, Deputy Director of Volunteers
Volunteer4@JohnMcCain.com

I am one of those who would like to see the best and brightest young people engage in either party, and campaign internships can be great ladders up. A young friend of mine who we nicknamed "wombat" started out four years ago as a political organizer in the DC office of the Kerry campaign and by the time he was done, he was hanging out with John Kerry. He's not quite running the Democratic Party -- but he's extraordinarily networked, and he's humble and has his head squarely (if not straightly) on his shoulders.

So I do encourage young, balanced go-getters who tilt Republican to apply to Senator McCain's office -- but while doing this, read as much as you can written by Senator Chuck Hagel, Senator Richard Lugar, former Senator Lincoln Chafee, former New Jersey Governor and EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman, former Senator Jack Danforth, and former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft.

And then if you feel so inclined, be sure to "politely" share with Senator McCain (or more likely his campaign staff) your openness and flexibility in reconsidering Don't Ask/Don't Tell, your open-mindedness on civil unions and gay marriage, your support of gay adoption and gay parenting (like Mary Cheney has exemplified), and your objection to conducting wars without raising money to pay for them. You might add that wars are really last, final, no other option acts and not really appropriate to chuckle or sing about.

I know a bunch of folks over there in McCain Land and admire many of them -- but best not to mention my name or this blog to the foreign policy types.

Good luck applying!

This should be advertised as an opportunity to see firsthand the blood and guts realities of political campaigns while sharing in the fairy tale of McCain's worldview or perhaps witnessing his cynical exploitation of the myths fabricated by the military-information complex for media consumers and voters of the world.

Truly heartfelt Steve, I can see that the Bay Area is good for you.

As an irregular irregular on your blog I am unsure of whether
you are being unintentionally vague on some of the skills
required to serve a National Republican Candidate and
Administration. In those young portfolios I would be sure and
have:

-"The DESIRE to just serve this president" ala Monica Goodling,
look what it got her, engaged to a REALLY important Blog guy,
RedState.
http://www.abovethelaw.com/2008/02/breaking_monica_goodli
ng_is_en_1.php

-"The ABILITY to demean your staff AND quote scripture at the
SAME" time ala Rachael Paulose, former Acting Minnesota SA
promoted back to HQ on our dime demeaning and quoting.

-The CAJONES/HORMONES to be able to say "I will fire anyone in
my administration involved (later guilty) of involvement in the
outing of a Covert CIA Agent, Valerie Plame Wilson" and then let
Rove scot free and pardon little Scooter.

I think these are a good critical start and more specific than the
generalized high school Monica Lewinsky abilities. I am sure I
have left out many more as regards "Foreign" geography, the
ability to see, repeat and believe after awhile an imaginary cross
drawn in the sand, knowing the hearts and souls of Russian KGB
agents/presidents and unqualified Supreme Court Justices and
of course taking care of senior citizens.

"Young Interns" for McCain?

Well, that's relative.

His campaign is probably seeking those over 50yo and under retirement age. :b

And for you young Republican women out there, maybe you can work your way into McCain's inner circle, so you too can experience the thrill of being called a cunt by Mr. Straight Shooter.

Oh, the inspiration of public service!

As a grassroots conservative activist, I know dozens of folks who worked for Bush as well as other issues. Many of these folks are doing NOTHING for John McCain because he simply does not deserve our efforts.

Nobody is out there pounding the streets for John McCain and that is one big reason the boy is going to LOSE to Obama. In 2004 Republican volunteers and the Swift Boats beat the paid army of the Democrats.

In 2008 the Democrats will have the money, the paid army AND the volunteers while the Republicans are going to have NOTHING but a bankrupt record.

All Obama has to do is keep the polls tight and his field team will absolutely splatter McCain in the swing states. Many Demo congressmen and senate candidates will give the juice to drag Obama over the finish line for a win.

In sum, McCain sucks and I am not lifting a finger for the boy.

McCain's Mansions: The Houses That Greed Built

"Most working families today do not have homes that have anywhere near ten rooms. John McCain has ten houses. Many working people in America have to work two and three jobs to provide for their families and pay their car loans. John McCain hops on a private jet. Is it any wonder why McCain champions a George Bush agenda of cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy, helping oil companies turn record profits, and leaving working families to fend for themselves? McCain's velvet world leaves him utterly unprepared to make the tough choices we need to restore the middle class and ensure that everyone in America has quality, affordable health insurance."
- Andy Stern, President, Service Employees International Union (SEIU)

Dear XXX,
John McCain is soaring to new heights of hypocrisy on his wife's personal jet. He flies around the country bent on duping the public into believing he's "one of them," a regular guy who can empathize with Americans facing an overwhelming economic crush. What's more, he disparages those who oppose his ridiculous policy proposals as "elitist." But who's the real elitist?

The REAL McCain is a multimillionaire who owns ten luxurious homes. The REAL McCain backs President Bush's tax cuts for big corporations. The REAL McCain empathizes only with the interests of our nation's wealthy minority, not its money-strapped majority. But far too many are buying into McCain's deceit because the corporate press won't present the whole picture, so we created this video to educate the public about the REAL McCain.

Watch the video and send it to everyone you know.

http://bravenewfilms.org/watch/20030380/49248?utm_source=rgemail

Together, you have been a force in making sure The REAL McCain videos have been seen by nearly 6.5 million people. But as Frank Rich noted in his NY Times column yesterday, 40% of Americans hear too little about McCain from the mainstream media, meaning "the public doesn't know who on earth John McCain is." That's why it's crucial you ensure this video is seen by as many as possible, and that we use each and every tool at our disposal to get the word out. Send this on to five friends and family members, and tell them to send it to five people they know. Get it to your local news outlets and blogs and networking sites like Digg. Raise hell about McCain's economic duplicity!

AFL-CIO President John Sweeney summed it up best when he said McCain "simply doesn't understand the challenges America's working families are facing because he isn't remotely affected by them." It's up to us to tell people who McCain really is, a jet-setting elitist more concerned with corporate lobbyists than hard-working Americans.

Yours,
Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New team

I'd do it were I in DC and a Republican.

Mitt Romney was busy trying to breed enough sons to staff the entire campaign. They have a busy task of supporting the war effort at home by endorsing it and not serving. Maybe they can squeeze in some additional time.

You have to give McCain props in that regard as well.

This is a good chance though, if young progressive leaning types get in, the future for policy could move that way as well.

Steve,

A clarification please:

Oftentimes McCain's campaign corrects his statements. So, would you "reconfirm" whether his campaign meant that they seek "new interns" or those "newly interred"

'Cause, I'm pretty sure that he'll get more support from the latter demographic.

KR

Well, I stand corrected. :/

Looks like McCain successfully inspired his first recruits!

(btw. I think that they'll qualify for that latter demographic group I mentioned above - pending reconfirmation.)

Wow Steve, I sure would hate to see many of the bright and best influenced by all the nastiness radiating from Campaign McCain. I believe that the influences of the powerful people on young impressionable minds is dangerous. I believe it will promote more division in our country, as McCain himself and his cronies do.
I truly don't know too many average people around my neck of the woods who are happy with the choices for president this go round.

Rich people USED to be able to empathize with and work for the
working class and poor. Witness FDR, JFK, and LBJ. Maybe it takes
someone with a three-initial name. With a few exceptions, most
politicians have been well-off compared to their fellow citizens.
Who else has the time to run for office?

So it's not McCain's wealth that makes him a hypocrite. It's what he
does with his position.

Obama did this months ago with the Obama Fellows program. Here in Virginia, I've met six Obama fellows already, just from attending democratic party events. One was only 15 years old, one was a mom of teenagers. Black and white. It's a great group.

Does that McCain website happen to mention that he was a POW?

Posted by PissedOffAmerican, Aug 19 2008, 9:59PM - Link

Years ago, having had been a shortlived participant in the outlaw biker scene, I had to laugh at McCain's geekish "roar of fifty thousand Harley's" remark.

I've been to parties where a pathetically staged remark like that would have got you killed, with your panhead's numbers morphing into a whole new scooter.

I doubt many in the crowd felt the comraderie that McCain so clumsily tried to instill. 'Course, I could be wrong, as so many vets have now joined the weekend biker/pseudo outlaw flock.

One thing is for sure, I don't think you'd have much chance of plopping Cindy's gold plated fanny down on the pinon seat of an old rigid. If the roar of engines tittilates that gal, you can bet its the sound of a Lear doing it.

(How's that for "sexist", WigWag?)

My caption for this photo of John McCain would be... "Postcards to the Cone of Silence"
