Battle in Seattle.jpg

Tonight, The Washington Note and the New America Foundation are hosting a film screening of "The Battle in Seattle" -- a film about the famous anti-WTO protests.

This film has an unusual cast, including Woody Harrelson and Charlize Theron among others. It is directed by Stuart Townsend, who will be joining me tonight for a post-screening chat with a number of other labor rights advocates, including Lori Wallach of Public Citizen.

We are pretty full -- but for bloggers and media -- let me know if you would like to join us this evening at the Regal 7th Street Cinemas. I'll send more details if you are interested.

And for others, I hope to get a couple of interviews taped to share with others on TWN.

I know it's not fair to judge a movie based solely on the trailer, but from what I've seen, this movie has about as much in common with reality as a McCain commercial has in common with the facts.

I lived in Seattle during the time of the riots.

Indeed, the majority of the riots happened in my neighborhood, which made seeing the cops billy clubbing old ladies leaving restaurants yelling "GO HOME GO HOME!!!" versus what I saw in the trailer have about as much appeal as a John Wayne movie to a WW II veteran.

I was there- I lived on Capitol Hill with my family and work in the
Indymedia Center during the Riots. This is already lacking a lot of
other factors/components that sparked the riots. There were only a
few acts of violence by the anarchists before everything sparked.
The protesters were contained the first day. It wasn't until the
mainstream labor and enviros united to support the protesters,
did things get bad. It got really bad when the violence spilled up to
Capitol Hill, then the sh*t hit the fan-
