Iran Denies Dennis Ross Planning a Visit

Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Monday, May 04 2009, 3:41PM

ross twn.jpgI'm still in Doha, and Dennis Ross was here in Qatar yesterday meeting government officials and discussing America's course on Iran.

Now, there are denials from the Iranian press that Dennis Ross and two other senior government officials, including Puneet Talwar of the National Security Council, are planning a journey to Tehran.

Denials of this type frequently mean the opposite.

I have no further information, other than the world on the street in Doha, but it seems to me that denials from the Iranian press mean that something is afoot and we may be tilting towards Ross and others on the Obama team heading over.

Fascinating times.

Isn't Dennis Ross supposed to be in Washington? You know, for the
AIPAC circus.

Posted by PissedOffAmerican, May 04 2009, 5:44PM - Link

How effective will Ross' visit be when you have Hillary running her mouth off that diplomatic efforts are a waste of time, and that more stringent sanctions will be needed. Israel chanting the same mantra, and Congress advancing bills to that effect.

Under this environment, "diplomatic efforts" are a sham.

Besides, whats Ross doing gallivanting around when he should be on his hands and knees at the AIPAC conference, groveling with the rest of Washington DC?

ROFLMAO! I guess we think alike, Nash.

If I were making the decisions on who to admit into Iran, I wouldn't let Dennis Ross in either. Can't we find anyone to work in that part of the world who isn't in mad-love with Israel?

"an't we find anyone to work in that part of the world who isn't in mad-love with Israel?"

Not in Washington DC, apparently.

I'm a little curious; Do you think they have a picture of Freeman's severed testicles taped to the speaker's side of the AIPAC podium, just as a little reminder for the speaker to stay on script?

Check this out...

"...Hoyer: There is no difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. It endangers all of us. #AIPAC..."

Heard while Philip Weiss is at the 'mein' AIPAC conference...

Welcome to the US Likud Party... oy - better start learning yiddish. Hoyer's sister's AIPAC directorship must be in trouble.

"Check this out......"

Fascinating, ain't it? One has to believe that the majority of Americans have no idea that our politicians are so shamelessly prostituting themselves in the manner that Weiss's twitter feed illustrates. When one sees the sheer scale of this subservience paid to Israel and its monstrous murderous policies, it makes one realize just how low our nation has sunk.

Funny things: how little play AIPAC is getting. Even Shimon Peres is low key. Saw him on CNN. Meanwhile half of Congress is lining up...

Its depressing, really. A few lines of Weiss's twitter feed really reveals the truth, that the Palestinian people have no hope, and this nasty racist regime of Israeli fanatics will bully, bribe, and blackmail the United States into an ever increasing role in waging warfare against billions of people; the world's Muslim community.

Don what the hell was Obama thinking appointing Ross to this position? "Israel's lawyer" negotiating in Iran.

No wonder so many folks in the middle east hate us. Will the arrogance ever be tempered?

Ross had to step down from being on the board of

Apparently, I'm not the only one that thinks these "diplomatic" overtures to Iran are a sham, designed to fail.

From the Asia Times Online website....

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/KE02Ak01.html

An excerpt....

Better then not to have the dialogue or have it right away and simply pay lip service to "engagement" when, in fact, the real engagement is between the Obama administration and its Republican predecessor with its one-dimensional and unhealthy toeing to Israeli policy on Iran.

Concerning the latter, given Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's explicit deferment of the "two-state" solution for Palestine to "progress in negotiations on Iran's nuclear issue", it is clear that Israel's formidable allies in Washington are intent on preventing meaningful progress on those negotiations. This is simply because such progress would by definition force Israel to make concessions with respect to the Palestinians.

It appears that pseudo-engagement has replaced true engagement with Iran and the new legislation camouflages its true intention - to restrict, postpone and ultimately nip in the bud the flashes of a diplomatic change in the US's hitherto coercive diplomacy toward Iran.

Peace Now Petitions the Supreme Court
Demnads that the Courts order the Minister of Defence to immediately halt the construction of an new illegal neighbourhood
in the Settlement of Halmish (Neve Tzuf)

Recently Peace Now discovered that AMANA settlement organisation has began to construct in a new neighbourhood in the isolated settlement of Halmish near Ramallah, without any official authorization or permission over construction plans. This illegal move is supposed to house 25 new families in this settlement.

Officially the government of Israel is committed to freezing all settlement construction and has consistently declared that no construction is taking place in isolated settlements, yet on the ground construction is indeed taking place.

In order to prevent a public outcry over such construction, the new tactic is to build illegally, without official overt government authorization and without valid planning permission.

Peace Now decided to appeal the Supreme Court requesting that it forces the government to uphold the law and to stop this illegal construction taking place in Halmish.

HELP PEACE NOW WITH THE LEGAL COSTS CONCERNING THIS PETITION:
