Saudi Dance Rhythm?

Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Thursday, Jun 11 2009, 8:47PM

A Facebook buddy of mine sent this to me, and I have to say that I didn't quite know what to do with it. I've watched it four times and really like it.

I have a lot of friends in Saudi Arabia who read this blog, and I'm grateful to them for doing so. Next time I'm over there though, I'd love to meet these guys.

Are you sure these people are Saudi, and not dressed up as Saudis!??
If Saudi, are you sure they are dancing in Saudi Arabia!??
The video seems a bit doctored to me, and they probably are not be dancing to Michael Jackson but to a folk Arabic song... like a Dabke.

A very good BBC reporter has looked into this and sent me some fascinating clips that were the underlying video -- without the Michael Jackson music. The Jackson music must have been applied after by someone. I still find the clip charming -- but also acknowledge that some of those in the video may be less than thrilled, and perhaps offended by the clip. Not sure -- have not heard from them.

Later today (Friday), I will get the other clips up on the blog....all very interesting.

best, steve
