Will the Pittsburgh G-20 Mean More than Traffic & Protesters?

Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Wednesday, Sep 16 2009, 9:33AM

I am up this morning in Pittsburgh speaking in a forum sponsored by the RAND Corporation and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh about the political context of next week's G-20 meeting. We've just gone through one morning panel, and I will be in the next segment that starts at 9:45 am.

I'm still sorting out what I'm going to say ten minutes from now (I'm basically pretty cynical about this upcoming meeting) -- but if you want to tune in, I am embedding the World Affairs Council's webcast above now.

More soon.

Steve, you've facilitated another TWN hook-up: Kathleen might
be joining the ease man and me in a three way in Phoenix. If
nothing else, the Arizona tourism board should thank you,
because we rarely get visitors to this state.

If anyone else wants to join us I'll throw a dinner party. Easy
claims to be a great cook -- he's telling me, an Indian, how to
make curry --the sheer chutzpah -- and has promised one of
his sons for dessert.

As I keep telling Norheim, but maybe the power is out in his hut,
we're entering into our good time here as the rest of the world
descends into gloom. This summer has not been that bad --
there was only about two months or so when the heat index was
over 115. Yesterday it was 98 out and was positively autumnal.

So thanks Steve! Kathleen is a fascinating person, although I
think she makes stuff up -- like knowing Lieberman (Avigdor
not Joe) from Connecticut way back when he was sane. Crazy to
think that Lieberman was once not crazy.

Tomorrow we're going to have a real expert on the Bill of Rights
on the radio show. He's going to talk about the Second
Amendment, which we're going to really need soon, like... when
was Nixon in office?

I just visited haaretz, clicked on the "comments" section of an article, and immediately was gifted with a computer that would not respond, it was put into "restart" mode, and when it restarted it had downloaded two programs that have disactivated my anti-virus software, and is doing who-knows-what to my hard drive.

Now I keep getting a "Your computer is infected" box, and there are a number of icons on my toolbar that did not previously exist. Yet when I right-click on them, I get no info on what they are.

Screw Haaretz.

NYTimes was reporting a "fake ad" yesterday or the day before -- you click on it and you get a virus.... Maybe someone's after newspapers.

It's a sign of the times that G-8, all white but for Japan, is now forced to share the stage with the non-white world at the G-20. In fact, the G-20 includes 10 mostly white countries and 10 from all other races. It looks like Argentina, which definitely does not have the stature of the other G-20 members, got included mostly so the whites wouldn't be outnumbered!

Following this line of thinking, there is an interesting piece on the racist origins of British foreign policy.

Looking at the world from this angle, it explains why the US can preside over the deaths of millions in Vietnam and Iraq, but finds what Hitler did to be abhorrent. Was Hitler's biggest mistake his killing of the wrong race? Would anyone have noticed if he had committed genocide in Asia, Africa or South America?

Considering "Free Trade" itself the way it is practiced is a con-game...

Well, we just got a peek into Pimple's character, didn't we? My computer gets infected with malware, and it appears that my hard drive might just be getting wiped clean, and this asshole Pimples thinks its funny.

I have spent the afternoon trying to download a fix, and this particular virus seems to shut down the computer when it is detected by anti-virus programs. Real funny, eh?

Using Nina's computer temporarily while I try to download the latest spybot software on mine. What a nightmare.

Pimples, I might be a bit obnoxious, but I would NEVER express glee at someone's, anyone's, computer getting seriously infected. Go screw yourself, you petty little prick. You just showed this blog what you are made of.

If you're speaking at anything sponsored by RAND you're being pimped big time. Do a little research on them.

Posted by DonS, Sep 17 2009, 5:18PM - Link

robertsgt40, did you listen to Clemons' remarks? He did not pull punches, regardless of Rand's rep. Maybe Rand got more than they bargained for, though I notice there was a pretty good round of applause for calling out Sen. Grassley.

Fwiw, I used to frequent Haaretz for years. However, a few months ago I think I picked up a virus from visiting their website - so now I no longer go to Haartz.

Mr. Clemons,

I would like to thank you for attending the G-20 student summit at Fox Chapel HS today. I am a senior at Deer Lakes High School and attended the program. I enjoyed your opening statements today. I felt that your observations and criticisms were the most realistic and practical. Mr. Delgado's insistence on placing the environment at the forefront of the global agenda is trivial when compared to the immediate impacts of the poor economy that faces the globe. Once again, thank you for speaking with us.

putting the economy before the environment seems to be a fools game... we need water and air to breathe... we are held to ransom by economists and bankers and some what a continuation of that, who would like us to always pay for everything...the bottom line with these folks is always the same... it seems some would like to basically wipe the planet out, but make sure to leave a few walmarts and etc. going... that doesn't make any sense/cents to me personally....
