GOOGLING the Shot, Recovering, and Life-Wiser Brian Beutler

-

beutler .jpgLiberal writer, blogger, activist Brian Beutler was shot this morning in my neighborhood near 17th and Euclid Streets NW in Washington, DC. He was shot three times in a botched robbery attempt.
More important than Beutler being a great friend of mine, he is a guy who has been working the hell out of stories on FISA, torture policy, detainee abuse and numerous other tough news arenas of major significance to the progressive community. Brian previously worked as a star research assistant at the New America Foundation and worked closely with me.
Google him — as I have here. Skip the shooting stuff. He’s going to live — though he is in a lot of pain and is going to have a long recovery. Some of his friends are now calling him “30 cent“. But go back to what he has written. He’s part of the progressive conscience in Washington and deserves a salute from readers of this blog.
He’s going to need some financial assistance — and if any of you want to help him out — feel free to send checks (preferably in his name — BRIAN BEUTLER) to me at:
Brian Beutler
c/o The Washington Note
1630 Connecticut Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20009
You can also donate via the PayPal link on this blog — but be sure to either note on your contribution or send me an email that it is “for Brian.”
Best wishes to Brian for a speedy recovery — and much love to him from everyone at the New America Foundation and The Washington Note.

My check for Brian Beutler, sent c/o The Washington Note, 1630
Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington DC 20009, just came back with a
sticker saying that it was not deliverable as addressed and could
    not be forwarded.
I’ll drop it off at New Am next time I attend an event there.

Many blessings to Brian for a speedy recovery…we’ve never met but we correpsonded when he was doing a story on Lt. Ehren Watada for Raw Story. I facilitated his inteview of Ehren. The story was never published because Sarah Olsen of Truthout was subpoenaed to appear at the Watada trial. Raw Story couldn’t afford a legal defense, if Brian had been subpoenaed too.

I know technically it’s too early to do so, but I’ll still thank Justice
    Scalia for this one.

A relative here had early onset diabetes coupled with a stomach virus, so we assumed his dehydration was the sickness and not the early onset(never knew of it, he’s ten years old).
We nearly lost him this past week, but he’s talking well and expecting to come home Friday.
Thanks to all who are part of Lebhoneur Hospitals.
