President of Paraguay Turns Down Meeting with Sarah Palin

-

palin computer.jpg
I’m not kidding.
Paraguay President Fernando Lugo, while attending both the United Nations General Assembly meetings and the Clinton Global Initiative, shared with friends over dinner some of the other meetings he had been having in New York.
He met this head of state. . .and that head of state. . .and so on. . .
. . .but then the room went silent and then broke into subdued laughter when he confided that he was approached about meeting with GOP Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
President Lugo turned the meeting down.
With all due respect to Paraguay and its great citizens, something is really wrong when the Paraguayan President won’t even hang with Palin.
But note to world leaders, PLEASE start meeting with her.
Otherwise, she’ll never get any credible international experience.

    Yes, Sarah Palin is a real embarrassment for USA in the rest of the world.Reminder that Bush and the GOP took 8 years to dig a deep ditch for the country spending like drunken sailors on unbudgeted wars, spying on Americans, not supporting Hurricane victims, torturing people, not capturing Osama Bin Laden, causing 9/11, unregulating the banks and then bailing them out of a crisis and the list goes on and on. Americans have a very short memory. Now, they expect the new Pres to dig the country out in less than 2 years. It will take time America and you all should have been making the same noise while Bush/Cheney and the GOP were on their rampage. In November, it boggles the mind that some folks would want to vote for people from the party which put us in our present unsavory state (which is now improving) in the first place. Pres Obama brought change to America and many Americans just don’t embrace change which is un-American as America leads the world in creative thinking and vision. Pres Obama (and that is what he should be addressed as in the news….not Obama) is a visionary and will lead all Americans, even those screaming and kicking, to more greatness in the 21st century.

    believe DOD and the Army have crossed the line. Why did Sarah Palin get special dispensation to go on a military establishment to sell her book. This is a political move against the Copmmander in Chief, and the military leaders at Ft Bragg should pay the price and be fired.

I lived in paraguay when he was elected and believe me his stance and criteria match up to Palin on both stupidity and corruption, I think it would have been a cute play date, they could have played on the jungle gym and maybe took a milk and nap break later.

Just look at the incompetents and unskilled political appointees they placed to run agencies such as our juudicial system(with “Christian” Lawyers), defense (look at all the “southern” generals”, wall street, etc. Pres Elect Obama will go down in history as one of the great Presidents thanks to the mess they are going to leave him to fix. He just cannot fail as things can only get better in the next 4 yrs. What a farse Bush/Cheney victory lap is turning out to be. They believe they can re-write history of the most corrupt and incompetennt presidency in the last 2 months of their term. So sad. Our great country never deserved such incompetents.

    So Fernando Lugo chooses to mock & denigrate Palin. This reflects on Palin, not Lugo?
    Obama’s European Vacation, No-Press-Access Photo Ops differ from Palin’s U.N. visit how?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Give it some thought Tahoe Editor, and I’m sure that you too can come up with some significant differences between photo ops that happened and photo ops that didn’t.
    Here’s the second difference: in Obama’s case, foreign heads of state did not decline to so much as walk down the hall to be photographed with the American, and perhaps snigger into their wine glasses about it later.
    We’ve had eight years of every country in the world laughing at our President as he gives unsolicited backrubs to top officials of allied nations in between gutting the Constitution, managing the greatest increase in Big Governement size and power in history, the deficit up to previousy unimagined proportions and overseeing the biggest economic crisis in generations.
    … with the loyal support of John McCain 95% of the time.
    And yes, as you suggest, the incident reflects on Lugo.
    Favorably.
    Just as it would reflect favorably on any head of state to decline to be seen with an apocolyptic fundamentalist wacko who happened to be drafted into a Presidential campaign in a nuclear-armed country that, like Paraguay and unlike Palin, believes in the separation of Church and State.
    Candy West Virginia – When Sarah was first named McCain’s running mate & our introduction to her family, my first thought was the using of this child as publicity. All the photos of Sarah holding her son trying to show us what a good Mom she is. Downs children can have many hearing, sight, lung & heart problems. At the Republican Party’s Convention what Mom would bring a 5 month old baby to be surrounded by loud noise & harsh lights. I can’t believe that she is away from her family when her children need her the most right now & in the future months. How do I know all this? My youngest son has Down Syndrome, he is now 34 years old & I have worked the last 34 years to help him become an independent,hard working happy, loving adult. My son & I have a very special relationship. Sarah is missing the best years of her sons life.
I am a woman of African American/Native American descent. I did not vote for Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton when they ran for office for they did not represent my approach to politics…their views not their color dictated my decision..as it should be. I am for Obama. I took my time and reviewed his philosophical mindset and his politics…the skin of his color was the cherry on top…not the cake which represents substance. No one should ever vote for a candidate simply because of their color or gender. We are talking about a mindset that will ultimately play out in the scope of governing and we better make sure we are weighing and measuring everything in balance. It is too important. Some people voted for Bush because they deemed him ” a guy one would want to have a beer with.” It was the most unintelligent reason to vote for a person to reside over the most powerful nation in the world…measured by a beer? Look at the trouble this country is in due to the pathetic scale of rationale. Can at least this one election..can we the American people STOP being petty and immature and start looking at what is between the ears of these people we are electing and not at their color or based on their genitial.     Fernando Lugo is a former Catholic Bishop, “The Bishop of the Poor” who is a leftist and deeply committed to a social justice based Gospel.
    I don’t know whether Lugo is going to be more on the Cristina Kirchner/Michele Bachelet/Lula de Silva pragmatic center-left side, or on the more interesting Chavez/Evo Morales spectrum, but, wow, Lugo would be about the worst person for the McCain campaign to meet. Just incredibly easy fodder for attacks.
    (I think the real reason that this liberation theologian bishop was elected was because the Paraguayan people wanted to kick out the horrifically corrupt Colorado Party which has been in power for, I think, over 50 years, with a good part of that being a terrible dictatorship. A lot of people significantly more conservative than him probably voted for him because their top priority was eliminating de facto one party rule.)
    Lugo did the McCain campaign a favor by turning Palin down.
What it boils down to is that she should not have been selected as Vice President…which says quite a bit of how irresponsible John McCain is towards the welfare of the United States.
    Some leaders are smarter than that! I can’t believe kissinger fell for it, than is tight liped about what he thought of her. But if you look at debates in alaska, she did well. That of course is about local education, I’m sure she has. I don’t know how they will crame enough into her head about the international stage, unless they get the debate questions a head of time! We will certainly know if she does, given her past performance and what we already know what she isn’t up on Nationaly!
    There must be something wrong with the landlines. I was speaking to my sister and our lines got crossed with someone from the GOP. Here’s what we heard (no joke):
    “We got to get her off the ticket”
    “We may need to wait until the debate is over, if not we’re done!”
    “**** that! we need to get her off now. We need to figure how to do this with little damage to our ticket. Call Romney and tell him to get ready to stand in for Thursday’s debate. We’ll run it as her daughter is ill or something then we can roll her off the ticket on Friday evening”
    “John really scre.wed us this time”
    The Judgment of these two men running for President will be on display next Thursday. Let’s see who has the BETTER judgment and see who FAILED their first test!
    P.S. Inside sources confirm: the REAL reason why McCain is making calls today is to quite down the noise from his party about his pick. They’re PISSED at him for his poor performance. He was suppose to score high enough for the impact their party will get this Thursday at the VP debate. They are now thinking of replacing MCCAIN!
    These pathetic photo ops with Palin are a joke. How can anyone take her seriously? Europeans are snickering at us over such a pathetic candidate. Sure, a few Europeans might come to see her if she went overseas like Obama did, but they would view it more like going to a comedy club to see the latest American moron. Six college changes in six year!?! Get real! As someone who got both an BS and MS in six years time, with honorary recognition, I know she’s is a clown.
    As someone has already pointed out, Palin is not exactly a genius.
    Her rise to power seems to have come about through her looks, an
    insincere charm, and an opportunistic thirst for control.
    The question shouldn’t be why did the Paraguay president turn down Gov. Palin’s meeting but why is the McCain campaign requesting meetings with an open ally of Hugo Chavez (isn’t this a meeting without preconditions too?). McCain was preemptively mentioning the president of Honduras against any alliance with Venezuela but Mr. Lugo (he is an ordained catholic priest by the way) has been openly friendly to Hugo Chavez since the elections. How can you have it both ways? Do you want to talk to them or criticize your opponent for arguing to do so? There is no logical explanation.
    Good point. I had in mind a “first world” country’s complexity of economy and level of technological sophistication. But all “worlds” are beside the point. Any national leader has to deal, not only with his/her country, but with every other one as well.
    BTW, on a different blog someone is promising an explosive bit of Palin news on Monday. Her dropping out? I don’t know whether I want that or not. She’s a disgrace, yes, but look at all this comedy and drama!
    She may not be “dumb,” and she obviously has good innate intelligence…but she is fatally ignorant. It would take five years of concerted education and study to make her intellectually fit to run for V.P. Her world view, from her evangelical Christianity to her provincial frontier anti-intellectualism, make her an embarassment to any self-respecting First World nation in the damned 21st century. The fact that some Americans are spunky ignoramuses doesn’t mean it would be a good idea to make one Vice President.
    Worse, she suffers from the Bush Disease of thinking that her listeners are stupid. The primal cliche of education is, the more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know. She suffers from the opposite: a complete unawareness of what there is to be learned. McCain and his people should be ashamed of themselves for foisting this shallow careerist provincial on the rest of us.
    Conservative Kathleen Parker says Palin is a total dud. She should “bow out for personal reasons.”
    September 26, 2008 6:45 AM
    Watching the CBS interview of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin did not exactly fill conservative columnist Kathleen Parker with confidence.
    “Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.
    “No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.”
    Parker writes that “If Palin were a man, we’d all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she’s a woman — and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket — we are reluctant to say what is painfully true.”
    She suggests that Palin should “bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.
    “Do it for your country.”
    Conservatives, what say you? Is Parker on target or completely off?
    I’d agree except, and it took me a long time to get here, McCain is a high stakes gambler. Maybe his wife’s wealth and his POW shield had more of an impact than I ever realized but he’s clearly more of a craps player than a poker player. These times are too serious to indulge that habit.
    The list is too long of dangerous potential pitfalls for me to gamble on a guy who blows his life savings (his reputation/brand) on a roll of the dice.
    I don’t believe the evangelicals twisted his arm so much as he just said “What the Hell” and hoped for a Hard Eight.
    I’d say that McCain was “forced” by a hard line crowd of Republican convention delegates and funders and others to pick Palin, she’s not anything near his preferred choices but he’s trapped in an unpleasant reality.
    So Palin get’s some national exposure and big time experience as preparation for 2012 and McCain gets to try to win under a variety of very difficult circumstances.
    I know she’s not dumb. And I know she’s quick on her feet. But, how cruel is it to take a completely unprepared person for a role (any role) in national leadership and then tell her to fake it.
    If she was a rising star, she has been treated like a rookie quarterback on a team without an offensive line. She’ll be sacked every time and her “skills” will never develop as she is cursed with both insecurity and distrust.
    The GOP eat their young for no gain.
    They should live in the woods for awhile until they learn how to be civilized and eventually learn to lead again.
