Matt Wuerker, who was just announced yesterday as a Pulitzer finalist, did this great sketch of the Cuba embargo “wall” that America has built around itself. It’s brilliant.
Enjoy Matt’s “Wuerking Drawings” at Politico.

    Years of failed policy: 47
    Lost business: Trillions
Destroyed families for pointless dogma: Too many to count
Humiliation and laughter at the US: priceless
There are entirely too many stupid people clinging to OLD, TIRED and USELESS crap. They are holding everything back and they are IN THE WAY.
    Time to MOVE.

“WASHINGTON – As national security adviser to former President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice verbally approved the CIA’s request to subject alleged al-Qaida terrorist Abu Zubaydah to waterboarding in July 2002, the earliest known decision by a Bush administration official to OK use of the simulated drowning technique.
Rice’s role was detailed in a narrative released Wednesday by the Senate Intelligence Committee. It provides the most detailed timeline yet for how the CIA’s harsh interrogation program was conceived and approved at the highest levels in the Bush White House.”
The AIPAC item has all the smell of a setup. Try and inappropriately lobby one person and claim it is for another person. Just to smear Pelosi at this time.
PERHAPS CONGRESS CAN CALL JOHN ISRAEL, ABU GHARIB TORTURER AND ISRAELI CITIZEN, ON A CONTRACTOR BASIS< TO TESTIFY BEFORE THE HOUSE ABOUT RAPES AND TORTURES AT ABU GHARIB.

In return, the Israeli agent promised AIPAC would put pressure on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to get Harman appointed head of the House intelligence committee. This pressure included having Haim Saban – whose largesse underwrites the Saban Center at Brookings, as well as a number of Democratic Party organizations – threatening to cut off the funding unless Pelosi caved.

    Break the walls down.
“After the repeal of the amnesty law in 2002, Hurtado left Peru and sought sanctuary in Miami Beach. Last March, immigration authorities arrested Hurtado for lying on his visa application. After he completed a six-month sentence, the Department of Homeland Security initiated his deportation to Peru, where he faces charges of murder and crimes against humanity.

The case against Hurtado relies on the Alien Torts Statute, a favorite tool of human rights groups because it allows noncitizens to seek justice in U.S. courts for violations of international law.”
Maybe Sen.Martinez could hold a committee hearing on that civil incident? Think he’d be interested or want more to be found out? Why is the USA harboring such terrorists? Can certain forfeiture proceedings be enacted against those propping these types up?

Oops, every person in the world can go to Cuba except the citizens of the USA, the country closest to Cuba.
You mean they lied to us? (again)

As one of the better foreign policy blogs, where is TWN on Iran / N. Korea. Rather momentous events in the past weeks, and while I think the Cuba issue is worthy of some attention, but surely it receives rather disproportionate chatter.
